Wacky Wednesday-Chimney Rock

The younger kids and I headed west to Chimney Rock State Park for the park’s homeschool day!  The kids attended four classes during the day which covered spiders, monarch migration, the history of chimney rock and how to track/trace wild animals.

After a picnic lunch and some time hanging out, we headed up the stairs to the top of Chimney Rock.  The view was absolutely amazing.  Each of us found a spot at the top to sit and observe for a while, before heading back down to the bottom.

At the bottom, we went into the tunnel which leads to the elevator (yep-we found out about the elevator after we hoofed it up the stairs).  In the tunnel, we checked out the lines in the rock and read about the different minerals in the rock.  It tied in nicely with our last geology block.
